The
Bayelsa state government has announced plans to immortalise former military
dictator, Sani Abacha. The late General had created Bayelsa state in October
1996, and the state will build a 150-duplex estate in his honour.

recognised, leading to the formation of the Royal Niger Company under the
leadership of Sir Goldie Taubman.
On January 1, 1901, Nigeria
became a protectorate of the British, a part of the British Empire, the
foremost world power at that time. Then we had the Protectorates of Northern
and Southern Nigeria and the Colony of Lagos.

Residents and passersby wept as they found a newborn baby dumped in a gutter in Lagos, yesterday. The baby was said to have been abandoned at about 6.35 am, in the drainage opposite a church along Mushin Road, Surulere.
