Whether it’s addressing contentious issues on Facebook, prophesying world calamities or witnessing celebrity ‘deliverances’ in his Lagos-based church, the name of controversial Nigerian Pastor T.B. Joshua can’t seem to leave the news of late.
The events of his church service broadcast live via Emmanuel TV on Sunday 23rd March 2014 proved to be no different as The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) witnessed the confession of two lesbians who said ‘demons’ were behind their lifestyle.
Maria Terese George from Delta State, Nigeria explained to the congregation that her poverty-stricken background pushed her to seek help from an older lady. However, she had ulterior motives in promising to help the attractive 19 year old.  “She took me to a club where we went drinking,” Maria explained while speaking in the packed church. “She took me to her house and started touching me. Because I was drunk, I responded.”

There are indications that the Presidency is making frantic efforts to silence the ‘loqua
cious’ suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, through credible materials indicting him of abusing his office, Peoples Daily has learnt at the weekend.
The government, according to our sources, is also exploring possibility of dialogue with Sanusi, whose recent revelations about the ‘missing’ $20 billion and where they are allegedly being kept have done greater damage to the administration’s reputation, nationally and internationally.
Sanusi, it would be recalled, was suspended by President Jonathan on February 20 this year, for alleged financial recklessness, allegations which the axed apex bank governor has since denied.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation on Monday denied it chartered any jet for the exclusive use of the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke.
The corporation how

In a statement signed by the acting Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, NNPC, Dr. Omar Ibrahim, the corporation stated that it had not chartered any aircraft for the exclusive use of the minister or any particular official of the NNPC.

The announcement by PM Najib Razak came on the fifth day of an international search effort in the southern Indian Ocean.
Based on new analysis, the UK’s Air Accidents Investigation Branch and Inmarsat, the UK company that provided satellite data, “have concluded that MH370 flew along the southern corridor, and that its last position was in the middle of the Indian Ocean, west of Perth,” he said.
“This is a remote location, far from any possible landing sites. It is therefore with deep sadness and regret that I must inform you that, according to this new data, flight MH370 ended in the southern Indian Ocean.”

ABUJA — STRONG indications emerged weekend that the immediate past Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah may have been saddled with the responsibility of coordinating all the groups presently positioning themselves to campaign for President Goodluck Jonathan=s re-election in 2015.

WITH top U.S. government officials, including President Barack Obama’s National Security Adviser, M

A meeting of 12 Northern State governors (and a deputy governor) and the US government on Tuesday in Washington DC took a dramatic turn when some of the governors, especially Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State, initiated a frontal attack on President Goodluck Jonathan, forcing the Nigeria’s Ambassador to the U.S., Ade Adefuye, who was also in attendance, to join the fray, objecting to some of the comments against the President and the Federal Government.

Although Nyako was said to be the most vocal, he was not alone in raising critical views about the president and his policies, as the Borno and Kano State Governors also knocked hard on the Jonathan presidency.

A former Head of State, Maj. Gen Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Monday described the ongoing national conference as a waste of public funds.

Police sources told the Nigerian Tribune that while the possible extension, allegedly spearheaded by the IGP’s sympathisers and loyalists, is being discussed in hushed tones within the system, the alleged raw deals being received by those likely to succeed the top cop are open secret within the system.

BE BRAVE, VISIT YOBE, APC TELLS JONATHAN

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has advised President Goodluck Jonathan, as the father of the nation and commander-in-chief of the armed forces, not to be afraid to visit any part of the country, especially Yobe State which suffered a massive attack by insurgents last month.
In a statement issued in Lagos yesterday by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohanmed, the party reminded the President that he had not yet visited Yobe State one month after the dastardly killing of many schoolchildren in the state, to commiserate with the government and the bereaved families.
APC noted that since the president’s planned return from his foreign trip on Tuesday coincides with one month of the killings, he take the opportunity of the timing and fly straight to Yobe to sympathise with the victims.

LAMIDO: APC CAN'T TAKE NIGERIA TO PROMISED LAND

The Governor of Jigawa state, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has described the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a party that has no real attributes of democratic ideology that would propel the nation to the Promised Land.
The governor who stated this at the weekend, while receiving the members of Nigerian Guild of Editors that paid him a courtesy visit, said the APC as a political party had no particular history.
Lamido said Nigerians cannot take the risk of handing power to a group of aggrieved politicians that have left their former political parties simply because they were denied tickets to contest for leadership positions.
Stating that the APC without Buhari would not last for three months, he said most of those making noise in the APC today could not dare do such in 1998 for fear of incarceration.
"We stood against Abacha and formed the PDP, which restored hope and value to the Nigerian citizens.

WHY APC WILL RETAIN SOUTH WEST - TINUBU

National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Lagos State Governor, Senator Bola Tinubu, has said that the performance of the party’s governors in the South West would give them victory in future elections.
Tinubu stated this after visiting some project sites including roads, flyovers and modern shopping malls in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital at the weekend.
“The party has already written its name in gold in the hearts of the people and will only need to protect its votes at the polls,” he said, stressing that the party would win the forthcoming governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states.

75 SENATORS MAY NOT RETURN IN 2015

About 75 senators, constituting over two-thirds of the Senate, may not return to the National Assembly at the end of next year’s general elections, according to a Daily Trust analysis of attrition rate in the legislature.
The trend from 1999 to date shows that in each election, at least 75 senators lost their bids to return to the 109-member Senate.
This was caused by various factors including falling out of favour with state governors, losing support of political parties, courting the fury of the voters and other reasons.
Ahead of the 2015 elections, 25 senators have already indicated interest to run for governor in their respective states, thereby leaving an opening for new people to fill the slots they occupy.
