Nigeria Ends London Olympics Without A Medal After Spending N1.9bn





The London 2012 Olympic Games ended on Sunday with Team Nigeria returning home with no medal, raising questions over the N1.9bn budgeted for the Nigeria’s participation at the Games.
It was an unusual record compared to the nation’s achievements at the Games in the past two decades. It was one that reminded Nigerians of the woeful performance recorded when Nigerian did not win any medal at Seoul ’88.

The Senior Special Adviser to the President on Public Affairs, Doyin Okupe, on Monday rejected the tag of an “attack dog,” for the Presidency.
Mr. Okupe, who appeared on an interview programme on the Africa Independent television (AIT), said his job for the presidency was to engage the public on discussions around the achievement of President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

 Ken Anyanwu, national secretary, Association of Leather and Allied Industrialists of Nigeria (ALAIN) an umbrella body of shoe, belt and bag manufacturers, made this known to BusinessDay, after the dotted lines for a memorandum of understanding (MoU) were signed with RFID centre, Abuja to develop the leather sector in the country, saying the tags were ready and would be introduced as soon as discussions with sponsors were concluded.

Church attendance drops 30 percent in Kaduna - Bishop




he Kaduna Diocese of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) said on Friday that worshippers’ attendance in churches in the volatile state has dropped by 30 per cent.Fearon said the drop in attendance has also led to a corresponding drop in financial support to the churches through the offerings, tithes and fund raising for the development of projects. He specifically attributed the decline in churches’ fortunes to the spate of attacks on Christians during services by the deadly Islamic sect- Boko Haram.

Benin Police in Uromi, Edo State have arrested a male cashier (names withheld) with one of the old generation banks in Benin in connection with the killing of the chairman of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Esan North East Local Government Area, Mr Daniel Akhibi. Akhibi was said to have been shot dead by a six-man armed gang who trailed him to his house in Afuda village, Uromi in an Audi 80 car which bore no registration number.

Only 250,000 people can live in Eko Atlantic - Fashola

Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) has stated that only 250,000 people can live in the state’s new city under construction, Eko Atlantic after its completion.

The governor stated this while speaking at an event in City Hall, Lagos to mark his 1,900 days in office as governor. He was represented by Lagos Attorney-General, Ade Ipaye. 

Dana plane crash: Families bury human parts



Some families have been burying just body parts of the victims because of the fatality of the plane crash that made some victims lose several parts of their bodies in the accident. That explains why most of the victims’ corpses are not laid in state before burial because what is inside the coffin is just dismembered body, a human leg, head, hand or other parts of the body.

Resign for peace sake, Lam Adesina urges Jonathan

Former Oyo State Governor Lam Adesina has a piece of advice for President Goodluck Jonathan – he should resign,  if it will bring peace.

Adesina’s advice came on the heels of wanton destruction of lives and properties by the fundamentalist Boko Haram sect in the North.
A similar counsel from the sect asking the President to either covert to Islam or resign as the condition for peace was spurned by Jonathan.
Adesina, who spoke during the 2012 Ramadan Tefsir lecture held at the Gbadamosi Olowoporoku Adesina Memorial Mosque, Felele, Ibadan, admitted that impeachment through voting remains the conventional way of removing or sacking a president.

Man dies during marathon sex with undergraduates



A middle-aged man (names withheld) has collapsed and died while having marathon sex with two undergraduates in one of the hotels in the commercial city of Onitsha, Anambra State.

The deceased had checked into the hotel located at the back of the Central Police Station (CPS), Onitsha with the two women he met earlier and exchanged phone numbers in the day.

ACTIVIST and Coordinator  of the Ijaw Monitoring Group, IMG, Comrade Joseph Evah, has  called on President Goodluck Jonathan to recall the former National Security Adviser, NSA, General Andrew Azazi (rtd), who he fired, about two months ago, to avoid the calamity that befell former military Head of State, the late Major- General Johnson Thomas Umunnakwe Aguiyi -Ironsi, 46 years ago.
