Gen Buhari Loses Eldest Daughter To Childbirth

At least 2,000 people attended the funeral prayer for Hajiya Zulai Buhari, the eldest daughter of the presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in the 2011 elections, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), in Kaduna last night.

The deceased, who was popularly known as Magajiya, died during childbirth at a private hospital in Kaduna around 8pm.

According to a source, she was rushed to the hospital on Wednesday where a Caesarean section was carried out on her. She was said to be recovering but suddenly took ill around 6pm yesterday.

Motivational Speaker Zig Ziglar Is Dead

Motivational speaker Zig Ziglar has died after a battle with pneumonia, according to his Facebook page.

“Though his time on earth has ended, he is speaking with Jesus now in his heavenly home,” read a statement on the page. “The angels in heaven are rejoicing and his family is celebrating a life well lived.”

Ziglar’s executive assistant Laurie Magers says Ziglar died Wednesday at a hospital in the Dallas suburb of Plano.

FG To Spend N6bn On 13m Identity Smart Cards

The Federal Government, yesterday, approved N6.4 billion for the importation of 13 million smart cards for registration of Nigerians under the new identity management system.

It also approved N4.34 billion for the purchase of two sets of modern five-Car Diesel Multiple Units (DMUs) each with the capacity of 540 passengers and an additional six 60-seater air-conditioned passenger coaches for intra-city rail mass transit services.

Venezuela President Chavez Arrives In Cuba For Treatment

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has arrived in Cuba, where he had months of cancer therapy, for further medical treatment.

Chavez, who was re-elected in October, is due to be sworn in for a third term in January, reports the BBC.

In a letter to the National Assembly, Chavez said he needed further therapy to recover from this year's "tough electoral campaign".

In May he declared himself free of cancer.

Nigerians Not Captured In 2016 Census Will Lose Citizenship

In a statement bound to raise dust and certain to conflict with the constitution, the Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Mr. Festus Odimegwu, has said any Nigerian who is not captured in the next demographic survey beginning next year will not be recognised as a citizen of Nigeria, after the 2016 national population census.

Section 30(1)(2) and (3) of the 1999 Constitution provides that “the President may deprive a person, other than a person who is a citizen of Nigeria by birth or by registration, of his citizenship, if he is satisfied that such a person has, within a period of seven years after becoming naturalised, been sentenced to imprisonment for a term of not less than three years.
