President Goodluck Jonathan Accuses media of self-serving

President Jonathan yesterday took a swipe at the media, saying that the signing of the performance contract  with his ministers was as a result of the failure of the media to live up its their assigned roles.
The signed performance contract, he stated, gives everyone in the government targets.  The President told the minister that they can assess themselves and know whether they are achieving their targets.
He said: “You will not depend on what the newspapers will want to write because the media is now highly politicised. Before, the media used to be the voice of the ordinary people. But now, the media has become the voice of those who own them. And those who own the media have private jets. And those who have private jets are not ordinary people. So, the media is now the voice of the powerful people. So, we have to have a way of assessing ourselves.”
