What was meant to be a blessing became a source of anguish, when a 26 year old woman got a divorce from her husband for giving birth to a set of triplets. Zainab Sirajo, a mother of three fr
om another husband until she got married to the father of her triplets who is a worker at motor spare part market known as Panteka in Kaduna, narrated her ordeal to LEADERSHIP at Yusuf Dantsoho Memorial Hospital at Tudun Wada where one of the triplets was receiving treatment.
She said that the father of her triplets was aware that she was going to be delivered of triplets, and prior to her delivery had not shown any sign whatsoever that he was not happy with the triplet that she was expecting as revealed by scanning.
Although, she said that the father of her triplet had shown some nonchalant attitude and has not been providing for her including maltreating her, she said she never knew the triplet she was carrying was going to cause her divorce from the husband.
According to her, “my husband was married before but had no issue before we got married. He was not with any woman when I met him. We got married happily and we have been living together before he started maltreating me, he got me pregnant and I was delivered of triplet, two male and a female.
“ Two days after I was discharged from the hospital, we went back home where my husband beat me mercilessly and after gave me a divorce (Saki Daya) meaning first divorce for giving birth to triplet.
“I left for my parent’s house where I have been living until one of the triplets fell sick, that is why we are back to the hospital.”
She further said that when she disclosed her ordeal to people; her husband’s brothers came to the hospital and rained all manner of insults on her, threatening to deal with her if she further tells anybody that she was divorced for giving birth to triplet.”
Zainab said that she was no longer interested in the marriage even if she calls her back.
“ I am appealing to well spirited individuals to come to my aid, as the responsibility of taking care of the triplets is so difficult for me,” she said.
The matron in charge of paediatrics Mrs Ajiyana Ramatu said, the triplets from birth received incubator care before they were discharged.
She disclosed that some of the women came to the hospital wanting to take away the triplets before they were stopped.
