Corruption: There’ll Be No Sacred Cow, Says Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan Saturday declared that there would be no sacred cow in the fight against corruption in the country, assuring that his government is vigorously fighting the menace at all levels and in all sectors.
The President, who was represented by the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, made the declaration at the graduation ceremony of the Senior Executive Course (SEC) 34 of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Jos, Plateau State.
He also reiterated his commitment towards the improvement of power supply, noting that “a major plank in our Transformation Agenda is to work assiduously for the improvement of the power sector.”
According to Jonathan, “You are all aware that once our power supply situation is substantially improved, more than half of our developmental challenges will be surmounted. Struggling industries would come on stream again and more would be established while millions of our youths would be gainfully employed.
“To this end, we are implementing a well-integrated power sector reform programme, which include institutional arrangement  to facilitate and strengthen private-sector-led power generation, transmission and distribution. We are confident that the result we have already seen in the power sector will be sustained over time. I therefore urge that we stay on course.”
The president said his administration is firmly focused on the objective of continuing to strengthen the bond of unity that holds the nation together, and will never be distracted.
He reassured that the future of Nigeria is very bright, adding that “we have made reasonable and steady progress but more needs to be done.”
To the 66 graduating participants, Jonathan charged them to be true leaders and agents of change in their own rights, noting that “your new status carries with it not just privileges, but more importantly, responsibilities.”
He added: “More than ever before, you now have a special stake in the stability and development of Nigeria.”
Dignitaries at the occasion included the governor of Plateau State, Jonah David Jang; his Sokoto State counterpart, Aliu Wammakko; Commander, Special Task Force (STF) on the Plateau, Major General Henry Ayoola  and the Plateau State Police Commissioner. Mr. Emmanuel Diipo Ayeni.
