Hurricane Sandy: Electricity Boss Resigns Over Failure To Restore Power

The chief operating officer of a utility company in charge of electricity supply in some parts of New York has resigned, following failure of the company to restore power two week after super-storm sandy.  Michael Hervey is the Chief Operating Officer of the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) which had been heavily criticised for its failure to restore electricity for a long period of time.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that devastated Nassan and Suffolk counties and much of the Rockaways in Queens’ area have remained in the dark.

There are about 10,000 outages in Nassau and Suffolk counties, east of New York City, but LIPA officials have said they hope to have most of them resolved by Wednesday.

Meanwhile Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York had on Tuesday announced an investigation into how utility companies prepared for Sandy and how they handled the aftermath.

The company in an appeal to its customers said it ``recognise how difficult it has been to be without electricity for a long period of time.
