Former Minister of Transport in the
Second Republic, Alhaji Umaru Dikko, yesterday, reacted over BBC documentary
highlighting how he was kidnapped in 1984 in United Kingdom allegedly by the
Nigerian government in collaboration with some Israeli. Dikko, who spoke to Blueprint in a telephone interview, said he was
deliberately set up to persecute him by the then Nigerian government.
Dikko, according to an ex-British
Customs officer, Mr. Charles Morrow, was bundled and neatly packaged into
crates as cargo to Nigeria before he discovered Dikko without shirts, shoes and
a heart monitor on him.
“Those that orchestrated my
kidnapping are still alive; it was just wickedness and blatant lies against me.
They are still alive and why would I forgive them? Why would I forgive such
inhuman and barbaric act against human being, without them asking for
forgiveness? This is the lies we face in Nigeria and the truth is clear, I
haven’t forgive them, it is just propaganda that they used through the media.
Have they repented? Before you forgive a person, he must repent and say it is a
mistake or intentional, but have they repented? This is my stand, if some
agreed that they made a mistake then you forgive them; but they have not and I
haven’t forgiven them. What have they found after all these plots?
“I went downstairs to see who they
were and what was happening. I met a guy who turned out to be a Nigerian
diplomat called Mr Edet. He showed me his passport and said it was diplomatic
cargo. Being ignorant of such matters, I asked him what it was, and he told me
it was just documents and things. A missing person’s bulletin alerted customs
officials to the kidnapping. No one on duty at Stansted had dealt with a
diplomatic bag before, and Mr Morrow went to check the procedure,” he said.
