FORMER deputy national chairman of the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) in the South-West, Chief Bode George, has charged party leaders and
faithful in the zone to be battle ready ahead 2015 in order to flush out the
Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the region.
Chief
George gave the charge at the weekend at his Ikoyi, Lagos residence, while
inaugurating the expanded apex body of the party in Lagos State. This, according
to information made available to the Nigerian Tribune is the admission of new
members into the Elder’s Club of the PDP in the state.
The party
chief, who was a chairman of the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA), noted that the
battle against the ACN, which controled governments in the zone except Ondo
State, could only be won if PDP would be alert and determined to fight.
“The
thrust of this focus is to point out that as the epic battle for 2015 develops,
we must all be battle ready. We cannot afford to shrug our shoulders. The evil
of ACN government is creeping everywhere.
“We must
stop them only if we are alert, only if we are all conscious and determined to
fight against injustice. Nobody will fight for us. We must pick up the
gauntlet for ourselves. Enough is enough,” Chief George charged.
Inaugurating
the Elder’s Club of the party, a former deputy national chairman of the party,
declared that the body, whose significance and existence were enshrined in the
party’s constitution, was supposed to guide and counsel the state party
executive council headed by Mr Tunji Selle.
According
to him, the body is not a substitute for the state party executive council and
has no business taking over its constitutional functions and should not be
involved in the day-to-day running of the party.
