Leader
of Niger Delta Volunteer Force (NDVF), Alhaji Mojadeed Asari Dokubo,
yesterday slammed President Goodluck Jonathan, accusing him of derailing from
the objective Nigerians voted him for. He said some greedy people who are both
corrupt and ruthless cage Jonathan.
Addressing newsmen in Abuja, Dokubo
claimed that politicians, who have hijacked President Jonathan were responsible
for his quarrel with people and regions that brought him to power. He
picked out the president’s rift with his predecessor, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo,
as an example. According to him, it was wrong for Jonathan to quarrel with
Obasanjo whom he said was his political benefactor.
He said: “President Goodluck Jonathan
is surrounded by greedy people.” Dokubo explained that his reason for speaking
out was because “it will be unfair to keep quite in the face of
impunity.” Insisting that it was a mark of ingratitude for Jonathan to strain
his relationship with Obasanjo, he recalled that the former president helped
Jonathan to rise from the position of a deputy governor to the Presidency.
Dokubo accused him of not doing much to show that he is different
from his predecessors.
He claimed that the president is
sending a wrong signal about his person by allowing people of questionable characters
to surround his government. He insisted that President Jonathan, by some
of his policies and decisions, was far away from the people, adding that
even Jonathan’s kinsmen have no access to him. He warned that people may be
forced to revolt if the situation continues.
He said the implication of the
continued poor performance of the government might be losing his second
term bid, a development he said would be accepted by the South South. “The
President has allowed himself to be imprisoned by some greedy individuals. His
goodwill will soon go and that will affect his second term chances,” he said.
