•Four suspects arrested by
Lagos police over abduction of ex-minority leader and son
The
Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the Lagos State police command has
discovered a mansion suspected to belong to alleged kidnapping kingpin, Abanara
(other names withheld).
The
magnificent mansion on 15B Fokade Street, Okuatata, Effurun, Ugboro, stunned
the SARS operatives, when they made the startling discovery. The Lagos State
Police Commissioner, Umar Manko, told Crimewatch that Abanara (aka
million) and his gang had been declared wanted over the
kidnapping of former Lagos State House of Assembly Minority Leader, Hon.
Taofeek Adeniyi and his son in Lagos this year and taken to Delta. Manko
said that the command had successfully arrested four suspects; Raymond, Joel,
Phillip and Osanmor (all first names withheld).
He said
that Osanmor sponsored them for kidnapping and masterminded the abduction
of the lawmaker and his son. He noted that the kidnappers demanded
N30million from the Adeniyi family but they were able to
collect N4milion. They collected it only for them to hold on to his
son who brought the money. He said another huge money was paid before
Adeniyi’s son was released after being held hostage for two weeks.
Manko
said that the officer-in-charge of SARS, Abba Kyari (SP), mounted
surveillance on the house of the gang leader in Effurun. “We have four of
kidnappers in our custody and they confessed that the mansion belonged to their
gang leader and when we eventually struck, the gang leader, Abanara,
escaped and we arrested a member of the gang who always sponsored
them anytime they wanted to carry out their operation.”
The
name of the suspect is Osanmor who told Crimewatch that “I am part
of the gang that participated in the kidnapping of former
Minority Leader of Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Adeniyi and took
him to Sapele. “I always gave out my money to my gang which they
usually used to carry out the assignment sometimes, I gave out the sum of
N100,000. “Also, it was Abanara who is our gang leader and we usually called
him after carrying out our operations, we used to share the money,” he said.
Another
suspect, Raymond also said: “I am a member of the gang that kidnapped Hon.
Adeniyi and my major role was provision of cars for the operation,”
he said. CP Manko said that the police have declared total war on
kidnappers in the state. He also said that the command was still investigating
the case.
On
the mansion which the gang leader built, he said: “We have declared Abanara
wanted, promising that he will soon be arrested.”
