Lagos
State Government and the Lekki Concession Company Limited (LCCI),
concessionaires of the Lekki-Epe Expressway, yesterday postponed the collection
of tolls at the second Toll Plaza on the Lekki-Epe Expressway billed to
commence by midnight, December 16.
The Special Adviser/Director-General to the state
governor on Public-Private Partnerships (PPP), Mr. Ayo Gbeleyi, who made this
known in a press briefing after a closed door meeting with the Lagos State
governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, said the state government took the decision in
response to appeals by Lagosians.
Gbeleyi said the new date for the commencement of
toll collection on the roads would be announced later.
He said: ”Further to the earlier announced
commencement of user based tolling at the second Toll Plaza on the Lekki-Epe
Expressway by midnight, December 16, the Lagos State Government and the Lekki
Concession Company Limited (LCCI), in the spirit of the season and in deference
to appeals made to the governor by well-meaning Lagosians and the public at
large, have jointly decided to defer until further notice the schedule
commencement of tolling at the second Toll Plaza on Lekki-Epe Expressway.
