Togo women calls for week-long sex strike to unseat President Gnassingbe

The female wing of a civil rights group is urging women in Togo to stage a week-long sex strike to demand the resignation of the country’s president. Women are being asked to start withholding sex from their husbands or partners as of Monday (today), said Isabelle Ameganvi, leader of the women’s wing of the group Let’s Save Togo.

She said the strike will put pressure on Togo’s men to take action against President Faure Gnassingbe. Ameganvi, a lawyer, told The Associated Press that her group is following the example of Liberia’s women, who used a sex strike in 2003 to campaign for peace. “We have many means to oblige men to understand what women want in Togo,” Ameganvi said.

According to the statement; Olisa was never involved in the management of Storm.

Nigeria, UK Prisoners’ Transfer Suffers Hitch

The prisoners transfer programme entered into between Nigeria and United Kingdom may have suffered a hitch following the domestic laws in the countries involved, which oppose forceful repatriation, and the issue of getting the consent of the prisoners involved in the transfer.

it was gathered that of the 571 Nigerians serving in prisons in the UK at present, only 40 of them are said to have agreed to return home to serve out the remainder of their sentences.

One prisoner was repatriated to Nigeria in May this year from the UK and is serving out his term at an undisclosed prison in the country.

However, according to THISDAY investigations, the larger majority are stalling the transfer as they know their repatriation home to serve out their jail term could not be effected without their consent.

U.S. Seizes $150m Terrorist-related Fund Laundered Through West Africa

THE United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) chief, Michele M. Leonhart, and United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Preet Bharara, during the week, announced the seizure of $150 million in connection with a civil money laundering and forfeiture complaint filed in December 2011.
The complaint, according to the DEA, alleged massive, international scheme in which entities linked to Hizballah, including the now defunct Lebanese Canadian Bank (“LCB”), used the U.S. financial system to launder narcotics trafficking and other criminal proceeds through West Africa and back into Lebanon.

Nigerian pastor of Europe’s biggest church, in N15 billion scandal

THREE years after some members of his church  reported him to authorities for an alleged involvement in a failed “wonder bank”, Ukraine-based Nigerian cleric, Sunday Adelaja is still locked in a battle of wits with the Police in his host country.

The members of his church who subscribed to the alleged Wonder Bank scheme lost about N15 billion ($100 million).Adelaja has been summoned by the Ukrainian Police for another round of questioning on Tuesday, Empowered Newswire reported yesterday.

 Some members of the church, “The Embassy of the Blessed Kingdom of God for All Nations, Kiev,” have been in detention since the last two years over the fraud allegation, also called a Ponzi scheme by which depositors are paid huge interests upfront while the bank holds onto the principal for business.
