Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso,
on hearing the news of the attack rushed to the palace of Emir of Kano where he
met the Emir, Alhaji Ado Bayero, whose convoy suffered a violent and fatal
attack yesterday
The Emir, a source said, told the
governor that the attack took place while he was returning from a Qur'anic
graduation ceremony at Hausawa Quarters in Kano metropolis. His
driver and three of his guards were killed. Several others, including his
first son, were also injured.
Addressing newsmen following the
visit, Kwankwaso said, “I've just met the emir in good condition and I
sympathized with him over the loss of three of his staff. We discussed at
length over the issue. We thank the Almighty Allah that the emir is
unhurt."
In its reaction, the Arewa
Consultative Forum condemned the attack. In a statement signed by its
spokesperson, Anthony Sani, the ACF said the news came as a rude shock.
“Rude shock because the Emir, as a
custodian of traditional values and culture that inspire peaceful coexistence,
harmony and stability, should not reasonably be the target for attacks by any
right thinking person or group.
Consequently, ACF condemns the
attacks with all sense of seriousness and concern because violence can never
address perceived grievances, however strong we feel about them. May God repose
the souls of those who died in the attacks and provide the fortitude to bear
the irreparable losses.”
The governor later departed to New
Delhi, India according to a source.
