OKONJO-IWEALA’S KINSMEN SET KIDNAP SUSPECT’S HOUSE ABLAZE

Fresh tension gripped Ogwashi-Uku, the hometown of the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Prof. Ngonzi Okonjo-Iweala, yesterday night as irate youths of the community razed a building belonging to a suspected kidnapper, one Chijile Onochie.
It was gathered that Onochie, now at large and some of his colleagues, who are now in police custody, were linked with the abduction and killing of a septuagenarian, Madam Regina Obidainty.

The septuagenarian was reportedly killed after her family had paid N2million ransom to the hoodlums. Although, the hoodlums initially demanded for N6million ransom, it was gathered that the two parties eventually settled for N2million.
Reliable police sources told National Mirror that Obidainty was murdered at a hideout in Edo State, because she recognised Onochie, moment after her abduction. Findings further revealed that the septuagenarian, who was abducted on March 3, was living in the same neighbourhood with Onochie at Ogbe-Ofu area of the community. Her decomposing body was recovered at Igbogiri Forest in Edo State.
Ogwashi-Uku, the headquarters of Aniocha Local Government Area of Delta State, was in the news recently following the abduction of the mother of the finance minister and wife of the traditional ruler of the area, Prof. Kaneme Okonjo. National Mirror gathered that Iweala’s kinsmen, who were irked by the fate of the septuagenarian, mobilised and stormed Onochie’s residence and razed it amidst jubilation by residents.
Police Public Relation Officer, PPRO, Delta State Command, Mr. Famous Ajieh, an assistant superintendent of police, who confirmed the report in a telephone interview with our correspondent, however, added that the details were sketchy.
