As the crisis in Rivers State chapter of the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) continues, there appears hope, on Saturday, that peace
may soon return to the party.
Indication of this became manifest on Saturday when President Goodluck Jonathan
arrived the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa in a presidential
helicopter at about midday en route Abuja from Bayelsa State.
The state governor, Rotimi Amaechi, who many believe had been having a running battle with the Presidency, alongside members of the state executive council, were seen on ground, apparently waiting to receive the president.
When the president alighted from his helicopter, he was seen hugging Governor
Amaechi and exchanging pleasantries with members of the state executive
council, after which the president and the governor were conversing as they
moved along.

After exchanging pleasantries with Amaechi, President Jonathan also gave attention to the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Chris Oboh, and a couple of other dignitaries, who he exchanged pleasantries with.
However, the faction of the state PDP believed to be loyal to the Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike, which was also on another row at the airport appeared not to have the attention of the president.
Jonathan, who appeared to be in haste, was only seen walking towards the presidential aircraft.
Wike, who served as Chief of Staff in the state during Governor Amaechi’s first term, is leading an opposition group within the state PDP against the governor.
It will be recalled that when the going was good, he was nominated by Amaechi to be appointed minister by President Jonathan.
