LAGOS TO SHUT HOUSES WITH SPREAD CLOTHES

Henceforth, Lagos residents who indiscriminately hang clothes and wares at the frontage of their buildings located on the major highways and roads would have such houses shut.
The Lagos state Governm
ent yesterday said it would begin to shut such buildings and confiscate the clothes.
The government also said that all enforcement agencies in the state had been directed to look out for such buildings, adding that such clothes so lined would be regarded as refuse and would be removed and disposed of, like refuse.

Briefing journalists after inspecting the July edition of environmental sanitation in Egbe-Idimu Local Council Development Area, the state’s Commissioner for the Environment, Mr. Tunji Bello, who gave the warning, bemoaned the continuous, indiscriminate spreading of clothes outside buildings along major roads and highways.
He said: “Our men have started, we have told LAWMA and other agencies to remove any clothes spread in front of the buildings or anywhere on the highway and dispose it like refuse henceforth. Why must you spread cloth on the highway? Sometime on the roads where people pass, we can’t tolerate hanging of cloths indiscriminately in Lagos.
We can’t tolerate that again. “It is not ideal and if we are not careful enough, some houses may be shut down. We have to seal some houses. If we don’t take such actions, some people won’t take it seriously”
