The controversy in Taraba State
continued on Monday as the state governor,Danbaba Suntai, who returned to the country from
the United States of America on Sunday after receiving treatment for injuries
sustained in a plane crash in Yola, said on Monday that he is ready to resume
his duties.
The
governor stated this in a letter he sent to the state House of Assembly.
A
top official of the state government who declined to be named confirmed that
the letter was submitted to the Assembly on Monday.
A member of the Assembly also responded to a PREMIUM TIMES inquiry via sms confirming that Mr. Suntai had
“transmitted a letter stating that he is ready to resume”.
Opinions
remain divided over the state of health of the governor whose injuries
reportedly affected his brain.
While
some are of the school of thought that the governor is not fully fit to resume
and that his return has political undertones, others say that the governor has
regained his health enough to govern the state.
Since
his return, Mr. Suntai has neither appeared before nor addressed the media. He
also did not address the thousands of supporters who trooped out to both Abuja
international airport and the Jalingo airport to welcome him; fuelling speculations
about his true state of health.
