Mbu, who was first handed an administrative query from the Force Headquarters in Abuja, was said to have received the PSC query on Tuesday.
Confirming the development to our correspondent in a telephone interview, Chairman of the commission, Mike Okiro, stated that Mbu was expected to hand in his reply to the query before the end of this week.
“Yes, I can confirm to you now that the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mbu Joseph Mbu, has been issued a query by the Police Service Commission and he is expected to submit his reply to the commission before the end of this week,” Okiro said.
Okiro, a one time Inspector General (IG) of Police, would not want to go into the detail of the query, but checks by our correspondent revealed that the content of the query is weighty.
Sources said Mbu is expected to give graphic details of how his present frosty relationship with the state Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, began and why he allowed the situation to degenerate to a level where he would be exchanging words on the pages of newspapers with the Governor.
It would be recalled that Minister of Police Affairs, Caleb Olubolade, a retired Navy Captain, had on Friday in Lagos explained why the police authorities were yet to re-deploy Mbu.
The minister, however, confirmed that he was in receipt of a petition from Amaechi against Mbu.
The Governor had stated in his petition to the police authorities that he and the people of the state had lost confidence in Mbu and, therefore, called for his removal from the state.
Olubolade stated further that the petition would receive adequate attention “because its contents are weighty I must confess.”
