‘ONLY JONATHAN CAN RETIRE IHEJIRIKA’

Recently, the Nigerian Army retired its members of Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) 21 regular course in line with the Harmonised Terms and Conditions of service.
However, there have been reactions from different quarters that the present Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika is a member if 18th regular course and is still active in the military and may be retired soon. There have also been speculations from others that he may likely be the next Chief of Defence Staff.

When Peoples Daily sort to know why, a top military source revealed that, with the level he has attained being the number one person in the army, it is only the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces that can retire him.
The source further said that if it so pleases the president, he could retain him for as long as he is in power.
His current position, according to the source, has nothing to do with the Harmonised terms and condition of the Nigerian Armed Forces but rests with what the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces desire.
