SARAKI: KWARA SPEAKER RELINQUISHES SECURITY, OFFICIAL CARS

In protest against the withdrawal of security detail of former Governor Bukola Saraki, Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly Razak Atunwa has made good his threat to relinquish his security details if Saraki’s security was not reinstated.
The speaker was at the Assembly chamber yesterday without his security officials who were said to have been returned to the police.
Atunwa had last week shortly after the House passed a resolution condemning the withdrawal of Saraki’s security threatened to surrender his security detail if the order to withdraw Saraki’s security was not reverted.

Saraki, who is a current senator representing Kwara Central in the National Assembly, had his security detail withdrawn on Saturday September 7 in the wake of the friction in the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).
The house, it would be recalled, said that Saraki’s security detail was part of his pension entitlement as a former governor as contained in Section 2 (3) (H) of the Third Schedule of the Kwara State Pension Law 2010.
Special Assistant on Media to the Speaker Alhaji Abdulrahman Sanni confirmed that his boss dropped his security guards as well as official cars, saying, “he is now working as an ordinary man”.
The state police command’s spokesman said he was not aware of the development and promised to find out and get back to our correspondent.
