Afenifere chieftain and Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, has said that the All Progressives Congress lacks the moral right to complain if voters are disenfranchised in any election in the country.
Adeyeye, in a statement on Monday, said, “The APC must first surrender Osun and Ekiti states that it got through disenfranchisement of thousands of voters before its complaints on the Anambra State election can be taken seriously.
“A party that benefited from the cancellation of votes from 10 out of the 30 local councils in Osun State, and cancellation of six out of the 177 wards in Ekiti State does not possess the required moral faculty to complain if voters are disenfranchised anywhere in Nigeria.”
He said the APC was taking its hypocrisy too far.
The governorship aspirant hailed the Independent National Electoral Commission’s decision to conduct supplementary elections in the 208 polling units in Anambra where voting was cancelled.
He said, “Even though INEC ought to have done better in the Anambra State election, the decision to conduct supplementary elections so as not to disenfranchise voters from areas where elections were cancelled is commendable.
“It is very interesting to hear the APC spokesperson, Lai Mohammed, complaining about disenfranchisement of few voters from Idemili North, South and Awka South areas that he described as the party’s strong support zone.
“Interesting in the sense that in Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi of the APC is the governor because votes from six wards, including ex-Governor Segun Oni’s hometown, Ifaki-Ekiti, were cancelled, meaning that the court disenfranchised people from six out of the 177 wards in Ekiti, including Segun Oni and his family members.
“In Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola became governor, courtesy of an Appeal Court judgment that disenfranchised voters from 10 out of the 30 local councils in the state, where was Lai Mohammed then?
“This is the height of hypocrisy and it has become necessary for these characters in the APC to be told in plain language that Nigerians are not morons as they think.”
