CONSTITUENTS ACCUSE SENATOR OF POOR PERFORMANCE, REJECT GIFT ITEMS

FOR Senator Ahmed Barrata representing Adamawa Southern senatorial district on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Monday may have turned out a sad day for him, as women and youth from his constituency rejected some materials he presented to them in Yola.
The senator, who is alleged to be in the black book of his constituents since his election in 2011, had presented 10 sewing machines, seven hand water pumps, six hair dressing machines and 16 grinding machines to people in the nine local governments that constitute his senatorial district.
Speaking on the rejection of the items, the leader of a women group, Women for Good Governance, Mrs. Kpawafro Musa, told The Guardian that the people’s action was a confirmation that Barrata had failed to properly represent his constituency in line with his campaign promises.

“To tell you that this Barrata has no regard for members of his constituency, he refused to organise this very event in his constituency, he is doing it in another senatorial district (Adamawa Central). This is to show clearly that the people of his constituency do not matter to him. How many senators organise an event outside their constituency”, she asked.
Kpawafro Musa said that they would not back Barrata in 2015, regretting that their votes in 2011 were wasted given the senator’s alleged poor representation.
Earlier in his speech, Barrata said that the machines were to empower the youth and women to be self-independent and to boost the state’s revenue generation.
He appealed to those that may benefit from the donation to take advantage of his good gesture and improve their economic status for the development of the state and the country.
However, trouble started for Barrata when last week the House of Representative member representing Yola-South, Yola-North and Gerie in the state, Aishatu Ahmed Binani launched her over N100 million free medical services for members of her constituency.
During the event, the state government rated Binani and Senator Umaru Bindo representing Adamawa North as the only genuine representatives of the people of the state in Abuja.
The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Abdurrahman Abba Jimeta, who spoke at the occasion, said that the other National Assembly members from the state were not only a disgrace to democracy, but that they would not be re-elected due their poor performances.
