RUMBLING IN APC AFTERMATH G5 DEFECTION

FRESH rumbling is reportedly besetting the All Progressives Congress (APC), following its controversial merger with five governors elected on the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday.
The New PDP, earlier on Wednesday, had denied their well-publicised defection into APC, declaring that “we can still reconcile with the president.”
Speaking on the momentous Tuesday declaration by leaders of the New PDP and APC, the publicity chief of nPDP, Chief Chukwemeka Eze, said the event at Kano Governors’s Lodge in Abuja was misrepresented, adding that the parties had not signed any memorandum of understanding.
However, hours later, Eze, in a text message, withdrew his earlier statement, saying the New PDP chairman had called to correct him that the MoU had been signed and the merger effected.

He said “any contrary statement in this regard should be discountenanced.”
The opposition party on Wednesday also denied that the nPDP had denounced the merger.
When APC spokesperson, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, was contacted, he said “I can categorically tell you it is not true. I have spoken to all concerned and they denied it. Clearly, someone is using your paper for grand mischief.”
A source within the nPDP claimed that what the spokesperson said was taken out of context.
Also, the age-long political rivalry in states involved in the merger has reportedly come again into the open, with erstwhile political opponents of the merging governors said to be poising for war as it became increasingly clear that APC leadership was going to favour the sitting governors on the control of party machinery and sharing of elective positions.
A highly-placed source disclosed to the Nigerian Tribune that the bludgeoning crisis had been more noticeable in two northern states, with actors involved in it reportedly not being pretentious about it.
The issue of senatorial ticket was said to be the bone of contention because both the defecting governors and erstwhile opponents, old members of the APC, were reportedly having their eyes on Senate seat.
