PRESIDENCY SHOPS FOR MINISTERIAL NOMINEES IN G5 STATES

It emerged at the weekend that the Presidency has flagged off a search for ministerial hopefuls from the states of the G5 Governors who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) recently.
Sources in the polity told the Nigerian Tribune that the presidency has now jettisoned the nomination list forwarded to it when the defected governors were in charge.
According to sources, the president usually writes the states to request for candidates who could be nominated for appointment as ministers, ambassadors and other board positions. It was, however, gathered that while the states have a standing list with the president for sometime, the defection has ensured that the standing list of the G5 states has to be abandoned.

It was gathered that the presidency is looking at the political configuration to determine the possible candidates who will be considered for nomination in the affected states.
The governors of Adamawa, Sokoto, Kano, Rivers and Kwara had announced their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on November 16, following a protracted disagreement with the leadership of the party.
While the aggrieved governors insisted on the sack of the National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, as one of their conditions, the presidency and the party insisted on following the due process in effecting any change.

Sources, however, confirmed that following the defection of the G5 governors, they have all lost the chance to influence appointments at the federal level as the party and the presidency has jettisoned the list of possible appointees forwarded from their states while they were in the saddle.
A source stated that the president is being careful not to appoint elements who will carry the grievances of the defecting governors into office.
“The president has to set aside the list of appointees from different states affected by the recent defection. It is not possible for instance for any of the defecting governors to influence appointments directly and the government is being careful not to appoint their loyalists,” a source said.
