As preparations towards the 2015 general elections gather
momentum, former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly and former acting
governor of the state, Sam Obi, said he has all it takes and that he is more
than qualified to govern the state.
Obi, the General-Overseer, Oracle of God Church International,
Asaba and a member representing Ika North East constituency in the state House
of Assembly, who said this yesterday, said God who made him acting governor
without any campaign is also alive to make him the next governor come 2015.

For Royal Dutch Shell, it was a case of win some, lose some Wednesday as a Dutch court ordered its Nigerian affiliate, Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), to pay damages to a Nigerian farmer for oil pollution.
The court, however, dismissed four
other claims filed against the parent company, in which the plaintiffs were
seeking compensation from the oil giant for the pollution of their farmlands
and destruction of their means of livelihood.
MARGINALISATION CLAIMS STALLING BOARD APPOINTMENTS –JONATHAN
President
Goodluck Jonathan yesterday said some appointments into federal agencies were
pending because all the geo-political zones were complaining of
marginalisation.
Jonathan said he
had already directed the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF,
Anyim Pius Anyim, to do proper analysis before such appointments were made. Swearing-in seven
members of the Federal Character Commission, two permanent secretaries and a
member of the Civil Service Commission at the State House, the President said
he would ensure that two people from each of the geo-political zones weare
appointed into federal agencies.
CAN BLASTS EL-RUFAI FOR JESUS, MARY RETWEET
The Christian Association of Nigeria on Wednesday in Abuja
reacted to the allusion to Jesus Christ by a former Minister of the Federal
Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, on a social media.
The body condemned el-Rufai, saying he was only tring to
whip up sentiments around religion for a selfish agenda.
CAN urged religious leaders and political associates to
advise him on the need to be sober and circumspect, in his comments to avoid
setting the country on fire.”
The organisation, which also asked President Goodluck
Jonathan to check the former minister, added that from his unbridled assault on
the Christian faith, el-Rufai was capable of “setting the country on fire.”
MEDIATION IN RIVERS, BAYELSA OIL WELL DISPUTE DEADLOCKED
The peace talk initiated by the Federal Government to
resolve the Soku/Oluasiri oil well dispute between Rivers and Bayelsa states
ended in a deadlock on Wednesday.
Following what it perceived as an injustice, the Rivers
State Government pulled out of the parley after openly accusing the Federal
Government of bias.
The two states have been at daggers’ drawn over the
ownership of the oil wells located at the border communities of Oluasiri and
Soku.
CJN TO INVESTIGATE CONTROVERSIAL JUDGE
The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Alooma Mukhtar, has
promised that the National Judicial Council (NJC) look into the
controversy surrounding the questionable judgement delivered by Justice
Abubakar Talba of the Abuja High Court in the conviction of a self-confessed
pension thief, Yakubu Yusufu.
The CJN made the pledge through the chief registrar of the
Supreme Court, Mr. Sunday Olorundahunsi, when two groups, the Anti-Corruption
Network and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), led a protest
march to the Supreme Court in Abuja yesterday.
WHY I LOST TO OBASANJO IN 1999 —EKWUEME
Elder statesman, Dr Alex Ekwueme, has disclosed that he would
have been voted into office as the President of Nigeria in the 1999
Presidential election instead of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, but for the role he
played in scuttling the ambition of the North for perpetual domination of the
South at the 1994 Constitutional Conference.
Ekweme said he had led the Southern Nigeria to muzzle the
plot to use the conference called by the late General Sani Abacha to entrench
the Northern domination, through a new constitution being considered through
the conference.

Association of
Nigerian Prostitutes (ANP) has congratulated the Super Eagles of Nigeria for

through its national secretary, Jessica Elvis, urged the national team to make
the country proud by moving on to the finals and returning with the trophy.
EVIL CHILDREN: 2 SONS KIDNAP 74-YR-OLD FATHER
Two suspected
children from hell have been arrested in Anambra State for allegedly kidnapping
their father. The two brothers, Ifeanyi and Obinna, aged 44 and 33
respectively, were arrested by the State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), led by
Supol James Nwafor, after they were implicated in the alleged abduction of
their father, Chief Mike Onwukamuche.
The two sons were
said to have demanded for N5 million ransom from their father. According to
investigation, the 74-year-old victim was abducted in Ojota and taken to Obosi
and was allegedly held hostage for one week by the suspects. Both Ifeanyi, who
was the victim’s heir and his younger brother, Obinna, according to
investigation decided to kidnap their father because he did not give them money
to support the upkeep of their families when they requested.
SULTAN TO FG: DIALOGUE WITH BOKO HARAM NOW
The Sultan of Sokoto and leader of Muslims in Nigeria, Alhaji
Sa’ad Abubakar III, has urged the federal government to take advantage of the
ceasefire announced by a faction of the Boko Haram sect and start dialoguing
with the sect without further delay.
The Sultan made this call yesterday in Sokoto when the Chief of
Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, paid him a courtesy call in his
palace.

Despite spending billions
of naira on information technology last year, most Federal ministries and
agencies lack active websites, Daily Trust investigations have shown.
At least three key
ministries—Petroleum, Defence and Agriculture—have no online presence at all,
while most of the ministries that have websites rarely update them.
The Ministry of
Power’s website is among those displaying outdated information, including still
having Prof. Barth Nnaji as the minister even though he left office since
August.
HOW ISRAELI SWINDLED NAVY OVER DOCKYARD
There are
indications that some staff at the Federal Ministry of Defence may have aided
an Israeli firm, TP Marine Global Services, owned by one Mr. Amit Lichtenfeld,
in swindling the Navy in the execution of the commercialization/concession
joint venture project of the Naval Dockyard in Lagos.
Documents obtained by Peoples Daily show glaring breaches in the execution of the contractual agreement stipulated in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the part of TP Marine, headed by the Israeli.
Initially conceived for building and repairing of ships after its rehabilitation, the Federal Government was expected to earn about $500,000,000 per annum from the dockyard project.

COURT GRANTS SUBSIDY SCAM SUSPECT, ALAO, TRAVEL REQUEST
AN Ikeja High Court presided over by Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo Wednesday
granted Abdulahi Alao, who was charged for alleged petrol subsidy fraud, leave
to travel to the United States (U.S.) for medical treatment over undisclosed
ailment.
Alao is the third defendant in the suit
that also involves Mahmud Tukur, son of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
National Chairman, Bamanga Tukur, Alex Ochonogor and Eterna Oil and Gas Plc.
SHEKARAU ESCAPES LYNCHING IN GARKO
........Over 20 vehicles destroyed, several people injured
The immediate past governor of Kano
state, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, escaped being lynched by a mob yesterday when
his motorcade was attacked in Garko, the headquarters of Garko local government
area of the state.
An Islamic centre, built by Shekarau
when he was governor, and ANPP offices in the town were burnt during the
attack.
Shekarau, who was together with
several other leaders of the All Nigeria Party (ANPP), had led top chieftains
of his political party and thousands of their supporters to Garko town for a
campaign rally for the February 2 bye-election into two vacant seats in the
state House of Assembly.
MILITARY POSTINGS:IHEJIRIKA MUZZLES COAS CONTENDERS
On the face of it, the recent
postings of top military officers of the Nigerian Army may seem a normal
exercise, but there appears to be a deliberate attempt to position some
favoured officers for a final onslaught on top contenders to the office of a
future Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
On favouritism exhibited by the Chief
of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Azubuike Ihejirika, the postings
deliberately posted junior officers above their seniors to be General Officer
Commanding, Corps Commanders or Brigade Commanders.
ATIKU CALL FOR STIFFER ANTI-CORRUPTION LAW
Former Vice
President Atiku Abubakar has called on the Federal Government and National
Assembly to make the anti-corruption law stiffer to serve the purpose of
deterrence against white-collar criminals in the country.
Reacting to the
public outrage that greeted the two-year sentence passed on a pension crime
convict, Atiku explained that the issue brought to light the major defects of
the anti-corruption laws.
Atiku said that
“President Obasanjo submitted a stiffer draft law which, however, was watered
down by the then National Assembly.”

Galatasary of
Turkey and Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire defender, Emmanuel Eboue, has boasted
that his country will eat the Super Eagles of Nigeria like ‘super fried

PASTOR PULLS OUT GUN ON CHURCH ACCOUNTANT IN BENUE

THE Benue State Police Command, yesterday, arrested the pastor of
a new generation church in Katsina-Ala (names withheld) for illegal possession
of fire arms and assault on the church’s accountant.
Vanguard gathered from sources that the pastor was apprehended with the
firearm by men of the Benue State Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, in
Katsina-Ala where he allegedly tried to kill the accountant of the church, Mr.
Philip Toryila, during a serious disagreement over money.
3 FRIENDS RAPE, ‘IMPREGNATE’ 13-YR-OLD STUDENT
Policemen at Makinde Division in Lagos, have arrested three men
who allegedly raped a 13-year-old girl, last August in Mafoluku area of
Oshodi.
The victim, a Junior Secondary School student (names withheld),
was reportedly invited into one of the suspects apartment at 19, Majaro Street,
Mafoluku.
Report said when she got inside, the owner of the apartment
Emenuwa Achonam, a married man with five children, whose family was away, had
carnal knowledge of her, alongside his two friends, Godwin Udoh, 22, and
Emenike Orji, 20,
