MAN ARRESTED FOR DISTRIBUTING NUDE PHOTOS ON INTERNET



A man who kidnapped and stripped naked a 22- year-old female undergraduate student of the University of Lagos State, Akoka, for refusing to date him
has been arrested by operatives at the Lagos State Police command.
The suspect, identified as Babajide Bashorun, 22, a dog breeder, also allegedly raped the student and took snaps shot of her nudity.
It was gathered that few days after the incident, the pictures were all over the internet.
The pictures allegedly had the girl’s name and surname, her university, age and department.

NGF MAY SHIFT MEETING FOR JONATHAN’S DINNER





The Nigeria Governors Forum headed by Governor Rotimi Amaechi may have  postponed its  post-election meeting in deference to the office of the President.
The planned shift is reportedly meant to demonstrate that the NGF headed by the Rivers State governor has no personal problem with President Goodluk Jonathan.
The NGF meeting, scheduled for 8pm tonight, had clashed with a presidential dinner fixed by the President for the same time.
A source, who spoke in confidence, said: “The NGF members are of the opinion that the Office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria should be respected . We have decided to defer to this office and postpone our meeting tonight.

VILLA DINNER WON’T STOP NGF



All is set for today’s meeting of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) which was convened by the Chairman of the Forum, Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
Also, the Presidency yesterday started reaching out to governors of on the motive behind the dinner planned by President Goodluck Jonathan.
The presidency said the dinner is designed to be a book launch by the President.
But the governors were still kept in the dark on the nature of the book from the President.
The pro-Amaechi governors remained adamant last night on their decision to hold the NGF meeting.

FG MAY BAN IMPORTATION OF GENERATORS



The Federal Government may soon place restrictions on the importation of generators into the country. This was disclosed by President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday at the 5th Academy for Entrepreneurial Studies, Nigeria, AES, held at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos.
Jonathan, who was represented by the Minister for Works and Housing, Mr. Mike Onolememen, noted that, while the government is studying the proposal of restricting or banning importation of generators, his administration was working to ensure that current electricity problem facing the country is addresse.

. Senate report says Baga death toll exaggerated

Leader of the Boko Haram sect Imam Abubakar Shekau hails from Niger Republic, according to the report of a Senate joint committee that investigated the deadly violence in Baga town of Borno State in April.

Shekau is widely believed to be from Shekau village of Yobe State, but the Senate committee in its report submitted yesterday said Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima told visiting senators that the man was actually from the neighbouring Republic of Niger.

The report, a copy obtained by Daily Trust, said senators were told that “although the Boko Haram sect members have some Chadians and Cameroonians within their midst about 80 per cent of them are of Kanuri tribe, adding that the leader of the sect Abubakar Shekau is a Kanuri from Niger Republic.”

FAMILY MEMBERS VISIT MANDELA’S FAMILY GRAVE SITE •HOLD EMERGENCY MEETING


Relatives of former South African president Nelson Mandela gathered at his home Tuesday as the ailing icon remained in critical condition.
Prior to the meeting, Mandela’s grandson, Ndaba, was seen at what is believed to be his grandfather’s gravesite in Qunu in the Eastern Cape on Tuesday, City Press tweeted.
More relatives have also visited a gravesite in Qunu where all deceased members of the Mandela family are buried, the Mail & Guardian reported on Tuesday.
The site is situated a few metres from Mandela’s younger brother Morris’s house, and just across the street from Madiba’s Qunu home.
The private gravesite is where all the Mandela family members are buried.

National Leader of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu yesterday in Ibadan berated the two former governors of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja and Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala for poor governance and predicted their new found political friendship doomed to fail.
Tinubu, spoke at the commissioning of a flyover at Mokola, one of three projects executed by Governor Abiola Ajimobi in the state capital tagged ‘Legacy Projects’ to mark his two years in office. The Mokola Bridge is described as ‘Transformation Bridge,’ while the other two projects are: Ultra Modern Garage, Podo and the Ultra Modern Neighbourhood Business Complex at South Camp, Challenge.

NGF MEETING: PRESIDENCY, OPPOSITION TRADE WORDS



The Presidency and opposition parties on Tuesday continued to trade words over the role of Rivers State Governor Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, as chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.
First to throw the barb was the Presidency which accused Amaechi of dissipating energy on the politics of the NGF  instead of delivering democracy dividends to the people of his state.
But the opposition – Action Congress of Nigeria and   the Congress for Progressive Change – took a swipe at President Goodluck Jonathan for “trying to frustrate the Amaechi-led NGF.”

SHOOT ME IF YOU CAN, AMAECHI DARES CP



RIVERS State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, has dared the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joseph Mbu, to shoot him whenever he embarks on a demonstration against him (CP) and the Federal Government.
Mbu had placed a ban on any form of demonstration, procession or rally by any person or group of persons in the state and warned anybody not to dare him on the directive.
But speaking on Tuesday when leaders and people of Urashi Kingdom paid him a solidarity visit at the Government House in Port Harcourt, Amaechi vowed that he would be at the forefront of the protest that would come up soon.
The governor said he had told traditional leaders in the state to get ready for the demonstration against Mbu over the police commissioner’s position on rallies and demonstrations.

AKANDE, TUMSAH, SADIYA, OTHERS EMERGE APC INTERIM OFFICERS

There were strong indications last night that the former national chairman of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Chief Bisi Akande, has emerged as the interim chairman of the merging All Progressive Congress (APC).
Though it has not been officially announced, LEADERSHIP also gathered that Mr Tijjani Tumsah of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) is the new interim secretary of APC.
Also, the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) has nominated Sadiya Farouq from Zamfara State as national treasurer.

ISLAMIC FINANCE VITAL TO NIGERIA’S INFRASTRUCTURE DEVT – SANUSI

Nigeria and other African countries need to tap into opportunities provided by Islamic financing to fund infrastructure development on the continent, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria has said.
Sanusi Lamido Sanusi stated this yesterday in Abuja at a conference on “Infrastructure Development through Alternative Funding (Islamic Finance) in Africa”.
The event was organised by The Metropolitan Skills Limited, Abuja, in collaboration with the Islamic Finance Institute of Southern Africa.
He was represented by his special adviser on non-interest banking, Dr Bashir Aliyu Umar.
He said Islamic bonds called Sukuk, if well developed, could serve as a financing option for governments as is already evident in countries like Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates.
“It is my belief that, if properly structured, it will complement government’s efforts in infrastructure development,” Sanusi said.

GRUMBLE AS TINUBU’S DAUGHTER SUCCEEDS GRANDMOTHER

Like so many dignitaries and others from different spectrums of the society, who had converged on the late Mogaji’s Alausa, Ikeja home to take part in the eighth-day remembrance prayers for the deceased, the least the traders had expected was that on that Sunday, they would get a new leader.

WHY FOUR CONDEMNED CONVICTS WERE EXECUTED, BY EDO AG

While condemnations have continued to trail the execution of four condemned prisoners by the Edo State Government in Benin City on Monday, the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Henry Idahagbon,  Tuesday disclosed that one of the condemned convicts, ThankGod Ebohs, was yet to be executed because he was sentenced to death by firing squad.
Idahagbon explained that the reason was because the Nigeria Prison Service (NPS) had only one hangman noose for executing condemned persons.
Those executed were Chima Ejiofor, Daniel Nsofor, Osarenmwinda Aiguokhan and Richard Igagu.
According to him, Ebohs was convicted in Kaduna, by a Robbery and Firearm Tribunal and the judgment stipulated the method of execution.

NGF CRISIS: DRAMA AS 2 SANS FIGHT IN COURT OVER JANG’S BRIEF

The crisis rocking the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) took a fresh dimension at an Abuja High Court yesterday when two Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs), Chief Tayo Oyetibo and Paul Erokoro tussled over who holds the brief of the factional chairman of the forum and Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang.
Also another SAN, Chief Awa Kalu tussled over the brief of the trustees of the forum with a junior lawyer, F.N. Nwosu.
The Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN) had sued Jang and three others at an Abuja High Court claiming that he (Jang) could not claim to be the chairman of the forum after the Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi was re-elected as chairman of NGF on Friday, May 24, 2013.
