A final year female student of the Benue State University, Makurdi was yesterday found dead in a hotel at the Low Level area roundabout in Makurdi.
Daily Trust gathered that 21-year-old Joan Adaaku, an Econo-mics undergraduate, had checked into the one storey Savannah Guest House at 7:00am after paying for a room. Sources said she was alone.
Soon after, she entered the room and closed the door behind her with a bedside drawer.
“She never came out of her room again either to ask for food or any other thing. So, at exactly 6pm, a room attendant knocked on her door to find out if she had any request to make but there was no response.” The source said the continued silence worried the attendant who repeated his call at 8pm and had to alert the management.
According to the source, the management called in the police who broke into the room to discover the body of the student in a position that suggested that she was on a phone call, foaming from the nose.
The deceased, hotel sources said, had on her a small purse a bible, a rosary, N8,200, a can of Malt drink and a bottle of water which was said to have been brought along. Police spokesman, DSP. Daniel Ezeala, confirmed the incident, saying investigation into the death had since commenced, just as her remains were deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi.
