GIRL GANG-RAPED, IN COMA

A 14-year old girl in Gangaren sagi area of Kantogora town in Niger State believed to have been drugged and gang-raped penultimate Saturday has been in coma since then, our correspondent gathered yesterday.
The JSS I student was lured by a gang of three youths into a room penultimate Saturday, believed to have been drugged. The girl was in the room from around 11am to after 10 pm and when it became obvious that she was unconscious, they planned to get rid of her. Luck ran out however when a woman who lives in the same compound overheard them discussing either abandoning her on the street or dumping her in a nearby toilet.
It was at this point that the woman intervened and advised them to abandon her in the middle of the compound so that when she screams for help she (victim) would probably be identified. She was duly recognized by another woman who called her father when they took her advice. The father, Mallam Rabi’u, took her home and next day contacted a medical personnel when another woman who identified herself as the sister of one of rapists came to tell him that her brother was responsible. The girl’s condition deteriorated and they transferred her to the General Hospital Kontagora.
The Principal Medical Officer of the Hospital, Dr. Tukur Bello, told Daily Trust through his Head of Nursing Services that the girl was induced with drugs and thereafter raped, saying her condition was improving. Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Richard Oguche, confirmed the incident, saying one of the rapists was arrested while two others were at large. The one arrested has since been arraigned on holding charges as investigation is in progress.
