Governor Danbaba Danfulani Suntai of Taraba State has been flown to Abuja to meet with President Goodluck Jonathan in an effort to ascertain his fitness to resume office as governor of the state.
Sunday Trust gathered reliably that Governor Suntai was flown away in a private jet from the Jalingo airport at about 3.45pm on Friday.
This happened without the knowledge of the state acting governor, Alhaji Garba Umar, who was also said to be in Abuja.
Meanwhile, a group known as Taraba Concerned Indigenes yesterday expressed concern over the whereabouts of Governor Danbaba Danfulani Suntai, who was said to have been ‘whisked’ out of the state by some people Friday afternoon without the knowledge of government and people of the state.
Speaking at a press conference in Jalingo, spokesman of the group, Comrade Silas Jafta, said the group was disturbed by the manner Suntai was allegedly taken out of the state in a private jet by some people as if he were a ‘private property’.
Jafta, who was a one-time chairman of NLC in the state, emphasized that Governor Danababa Suntai was elected by the generality of the people of Taraba and as such, people ought to know his whereabouts, stressing that it was wrong for a few group of people to start treating him as a personal property.
“We are disturbed with recent development in the state. Danbaba as we all know, we elected him in Taraba State. We are surprised with all the developments that have been going on since the return of Danbaba. Danbaba is our governor, nobody is disputing that; but if some people want to take charge of Danbaba, we will not sit as concerned indigenes.
“Just of recent, some few people came and took Danbaba away to unknown destination without the knowledge of the acting governor. This is very bad. We are not happy. Danbaba is the property of Taraba State government, so whatever is happening to Danbaba honestly speaking, the government should know; we the people of Taraba State should also know”, he added.
He called on some people who have constituted themselves as a ‘cabal’ around Suntai to desist from their actions and allow Governor Suntai to recover well, saying “we should always pray for Danbaba for quick recovery, but disturbing him by taking him from one place to the other will not help the situation. So they should desist from it”.
When contacted, Chief Press Secretary to Taraba acting governor, Kefas Sule said they heard about the development but his boss was not officially notified to that effect.
Efforts to get the comments of Governor Suntai’ Spokesman, Silvanus Giwa proved abortive as he neither picked the calls put to his phone nor respond to a text message sent to him.
