RIVERS CRISIS: INJURED LAWMAKER YET TO RETURN

The member representing Obio/Akpor Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon Michael Okechukwu Chinda, who was injured during a fracas at the Assembly complex on July 9, 2013, is yet to return to Nigeria, nearly six months after he was discharged from a London hospital.
Chinda, one of the now six lawmakers opposed to the administration of governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, sustained serious injuries in the head after he was hit with a mace by the leader of the House and member representing Emohua constituency in the House, Hon Chidi Julius Lloyd, during a free-for-all fight in the hallowed chamber of the House.
The lawmaker was first rushed to the Saint Patrick’s Hospital, Ogbunabali, Port Harcourt for treatment, before he was transferred to Bupa Cromwell Hospital, London, for further treatment based on the advice of the doctors at the Port Harcourt hospital.

Investigations by LEADERSHIP Sunday revealed the soft-spoken Ikwerre-born politician, may have not returned to Nigeria, after he was discharged from the London hospital in August 2013.
It was observed that Chinda has not been seen at any of the functions of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the Grassroots Development Initiative (GDI), a political pressure group founded by the Supervising Minister of Education, Chief Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike, or any other event that has to do with the six anti-Amaechi lawmakers, within or outside the state.
