The Rivers Coalition for Peace, a socio-political group in Rivers State, has lashed out at the state governor, Honourable Rotimi Amaechi and his supporters for “enmeshing the state in high profile hypes and drama of politics, which most times ending up in insults and fracas.”
According to the group, in a statement signed by its coordinator and secretary, Stephen Brown and Allwell Dokubo, respectively, the latest drama in the state was the alleged shooting of Senator Magnus Abe as the fallout of the Save Rivers Movement rally at the Rivers State College Of Arts and Science (CAS), Rumuola.
The group condemned the famed shooting of Abe as a ruse and needless drama, citing four instances where the Senator had collapsed without being shot at, even as it said that not only was the Rivers Police Command’s defence that it never used rubber bullets tenable, there were no traces of the expended rubber bullets days after the incident.
“Enough of this drama! Senator Abbe is a Christian. He knows he was not shot at. The Bible condemns lying. Even without being shot at, Senator Magnus Abbe is on record to have collapsed four times before that incidence at CAS. The first known case was at Baptist Church, Aggrey Road, Port Harcourt, in 2006, during a church service. The second was in the Government House in 2009, during a meeting when he was the Secretary to the State Government (SSG). The third was at Corpus Christi Traffic Junction, Kaduna Street, Port Harcourt, in 2010 during the church’s thanksgiving service. The fourth was again in 2010 in the residence of a member (an Ikwere)of the House of Representatives. That was when the legislator’s daughter was getting married. In all of these, who fired rubber bullets or tear gas? Please stop these drama and fakery. They neither evoke sympathy nor concerns, any longer,” the group noted.
