President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday met four governors from the South West behind closed doors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja
The governors, who met with the President, are Babatunde Fashola (Lagos), Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Ibikunle Amosu (Ogun) and Rauf Aregbesola (Osun).
Two other governors from the zone, Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo) and Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo) were absent at the meeting.
Fashola, Fayemi and Aregbesola went into the President’s office accompanied by the Chief of Staff to the President, Brig-Gen. Jones Oladeinde Arogbofa (rtd), while Amosu came in later to join them.
Some ministers from the zone, including Mrs. Omobola Johnson (Communications), Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide (Minister of State, FCT) and Musiliu Obanikoro (Minister of State, Defence) were seen going to the President’s office, It was not clear however, whether the ministers were also part of the meeting.
None of the governors was ready to disclose the outcome of their discussion with the President to State House correspondents.
But when pressed further, Fayemi who was walking along with his colleagues said: “We came to see the President and it is in connection with issues of national importance and for the development of the South West.”
Fashola on his own part simply said: “We came to see the President.” He declined to say anything further.
It would be recalled that on May 31, 2012, the governors also met with Jonathan on the state of infrastructure in the South West zone, particularly the deplorable state of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Fayemi had told State House correspondents that the meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss with the President the state of other Federal Government roads in the zone.
