Emirs from the North and Muslim traditional rulers from the country, converged on Kaduna to discuss, and arrive at a resolution on how to address issues affecting the Muslim Ummah today.
A source close to the Sultanate confided in our reporter that top on their agenda was the plight of Muslims under the current dispensation as many of them had become target to both the suspected insurgents and trigger-happy security agents.
According to the source,”the emirs are discussing a lot of issues and by tomorrow, they will make their positions known because the Vice President, who is the number one Muslim in Nigeria, would be here together with other notable Muslim leaders from the country.”
He however, dismissed rumour that some of the emirs had queried the delay in establishing a JNI university as was envisaged by the late Sardauna Ahmadu Bello, pointing out that already, there were institutions of higher learning under the auspices of JNI while the Sultan of Sokoto had intensified efforts to further unite Nigerian Muslims in spite of the difficult situation they had found themselves.
The JNI headquarters, venue of the golden jubilee celebration had turned the neighbouring Sign Board shopping area into a bee hive of economic activities.
Earlier in the day, the Lamido of Adamawa had said in an interview that the crisis affecting the Fulani in some parts of the country shouldn’t have arisen, since they had a historical friendly link with the regular opponents, the Tiv and should learn to stay peacefully with one another.
The Lamido however, alleged that some people, yet yo be identified, had allegedly been using the uniform of soldiers to raid villages in the North and kill innocent people. He also dismissed the claim that some of these killers were Fulani, saying they used to camouflage like the Fulani to cause mayhem and disappear.
