NYAKO OUT TO INCITE NORTHERN GOVS AGAINST JONATHAN -UMAR

Former Military Governor of Kaduna State, Col. Abubakar Umar(retd.), on Tuesday carpeted the Adamawa State Governor, Murtala Nyako, over his allegation that the president Goodluck Jonathan’s administration is plotting a genocide against the North.
Umar, in an interview with newsmen in Kaduna on Tuesday, noted that Nyako’s memo was aimed at inciting the governors of the region against the President.
He said it was shocking and disturbing that such allegation was coming from a former military top brass like the governor(Nyako) at a period when the nation was not at peace.
Umar, who lost his commission at the wake of the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, wondered what the governor, a former Deputy Chief of Defence Staff, was out to achieve with such a memo.

The former governor, also a social critic, added that the governor’s statement was inciting and one that is “asking northerners to rise against the government.”
While appealing the governors of the region to channel their grievances as regards the current insecurity to the appropriate quarters rather than making unfounded claims, Umar urged the governor and others like him not to set the nation ablaze with their actions.
He added that what he expected from somebody of Nyako’s calibre was for him to table all he had in his memo before the Council of State meeting and not to go to the media to attack the government with such weighty allegations that were capable of bringing down the entire country.
Umar said, “The statement of Governor Murtala Nyako; coming from a retired military officer, is shocking and worrisome, and I hope people like him should not put the nation on fire and should desist from making wild allegation.
“What is his aim? Does he wants northerners to pick up arms against the Federal Government or what? These are comments that should not come from leaders who want the nation to progress and move forward; moreso, like a state governor and a retired military officer.
“How can he prove the allegation he made against President Goodluck Jonathan that he is encouraging genocide in the country? Doesn’t he realise the implication of this kind of statement? And that the statement can set Nigeria on fire; does it augur well for national stability and unity of the country?”
