The Lagos State police command have beefed up security and began massive ‘stop and search’ in the metropolis to ensure that hoodlums did not cause any violence as Christians and Lagosians celebrate Easter and Lagos State Black Heritage Carnival.
LEADERSHIP investigation revealed that the police command did not want to be taken unawares by terrorists operating in the northern part of the country.
The state police command spokesperson, DSP Ngozi Braide who spoke on behalf of the commissioner of police in charge of the command, Mr Umar Manko, in a press release said, “A contingent of strike forces and specialised units of the force which includes Police Mobile Force (PMF), Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Explosive Ordinance Division (EOD) and conventional policemen have been positioned and in all points to monitor vehicles and individuals coming into the state and conduct stop and search. The State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) operatives have also been deployed to all nooks and crannies for covert operation”.
Braide said the commissioner of police, Lagos State, CP Umar Manko had since directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to supervise and monitor this intensive surveillance which will also pay attention to strategic places such as worship centres, shopping malls, financial institutions, business plaza, markets, government installations, recreation centres, motor parks, among others.
She said that the commissioner of police on behalf of the officers and men of the command wishes Christians and Lagosians a happy Easter and Black Heritage Carnival celebration. He further, thanked the residents for their unalloyed cooperation so far while urging them to always provide useful information to the police.
