MEMBERS of the taskforce of the Federal Road Committee on Surveillance and Action Against Road Abuse (FERCSARA) have taken over activities on all federal roads in Lagos State.
Dozens of the agency’s taskforce officials were, on Tuesday, spotted patroling both sides of the Old-Toll Gate end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, which is very close to Ojota area of the state. But completely out of site were officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), who for long had operated on that route.
After working till about half of the day, the officials were seen leaving the express road one after the other, till they were all completely out of sight at around 4.00 p.m.
Though it was not certain how much of other federal government roads that were also taken over by the FERCSARA officials, but information made available to the Nigerian Tribune indicated that plans were underway for FERCSARA to eventually take over the affairs of all roads owned by the Federal Government in Lagos State.
This was corroborated by one of the officers of FERCSARA, who was seen spotting the blue and black uniform of the new agency at the Old-Toll Gate area. He told the Nigerian Tribune that he and his colleagues had received ‘adequate trainings’ on how to effectively manage traffic-related issues on all federal government roads in the state.
