Following a request by the Nasarawa State House of Assembly for the constitution of a panel to investigate allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office levelled against Governor Al-Makura, the state Chief Judge, Justice Suleiman U. Dikko yesterday inaugurated a 7-man panel to carry out the assignment within 90 days.
Members of the panel included, Mohammed Sabo Keana, Rev. Dr. Joel Galadima (Rtd), Alhaji Abdu Usman, Samuel Chaku and Mohammad Sani Usman and Pastor David Chaga while Yusuf Shehu Usman is to serve as chairman of the panel.
The Nasarawa state House of Assembly had on 14th July, resolved to serve notice of impeachment on the state Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura over allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office.
Inaugurating the panel at the conference hall of the state ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Lafia, the state capital, the Chief Judge, urged members of the panel to carry out their duties in line with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, (1999 as amended).
He said: “By virtue of the powers conferred on me by section 188 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, (1999 as amended) and the letter from the Honourable Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly with reference NSHA/MM/166 /VOL/ 1 /38 dated the 23rd July, 2014 requesting me to appoint a seven-man panel to investigate the governor, I hereby appoint you. “
Justice Dikko explained that the panel was expected to submit its findings to the Honourable Speaker of the State House of Assembly within 90 days, in line with section 188 of the constitution.
He urged members of the panel to be just and fair to all parties in the discharge of their duties, as according to him’’ no proceedings or determination of the panel or of the House of Assembly or any matter relating to such proceedings or determination shall be entertained or questioned in any court.’’
