NYAKO’S ADC RECEIVED N48 MILLION MONTHLY AS SECURITY VOTE – PERMANENT SECRETARY

The senior aide to the impeached governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako, was paid N45 million monthly as security votes raised by all the Local Government Areas in the state, a permanent secretary in the state said Wednesday.
The Adamawa State Permanent Secretary for Local Government, Kennedy Dauda, said during Mr. Nyako’s tenure as governor, the local government areas contributed N48 million and paid same to the governor’s aide-de-camp[ADC] as support for the police.
The money was was never accounted for, he said.

Mr. Dauda made the claims while appearing before a seven-person panel constituted by the state Acting Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, to probe Mr. Nyako’s administration.
“The 21 local government councils in the state has been contributing N48 million monthly as assistance to the police and the amount was being collected by the ADC to former Governor, Murtala Nyako, for security,” he said at the panel’s sitting held at High Court II in Yola.
Mr. Dauda also told the panel that the local governments also made a monthly contribution of N10. 5 million for the operations of the three state-owned media organizations. He said the money never reached its destination.
He told the panel that the local governments, through the ministry he heads also paid N167 million in 2012 to a company that was awarded a contract for the provision of CCTV cameras. Mr. Dauda said he was not sure the contract ever commenced.
The panel raised some questions concerning the contracts awarded including one for 210 housing units in a local government and the purchase of 110 Hilux vans. The permanent secretary said at the time the contracts were awarded, he was not in charge.
The chairman of the panel, Umar Bobbo, said the panel will get in touch with relevant individuals and organizations to verify the claims by the permanent secretary.
