GUNMEN BLOW UP POLICE STATION IN KOGI

Gunmen on Sunday night blew up a police station situated in the headquarters of Ajaokuta local government area of Kogi state in order to gain access to the armoury.
A source, who asked not to be named in print, told Blueprint that heavy gunfire was heard around the area between the hours of 8 p.m. and 9 p.m.
The source said the attackers, numbering over 20, de
scended on the station from different directions and bombed it, adding that the policemen who the gunmen took unawares quickly ordered for police and military reinforcement from the state capital Lokoja.
“The unknown gunmen used dynamite to blow up the armoury, but did not succeed in carting away firearms. No casualty was recorded,” the source said.
The Kogi state Police Command, in a statement it issued yesterday in Lokoja, said the gunmen were repelled by its officers.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr. Elvis Aguebor, urged members of the public to report anybody seen with bullet wounds of any sort to the nearest police station or other security agencies.
According to him, “About 2100 hours of September 21, 2014, unknown gunmen unleashed heavy attack on Adogo Police Station in Ajaokuta local government area of Kogi state, apparently desirous of carting away police arms.
“The policemen on duty swiftly took position and returned fire. The heavy dynamite launched by the attackers demolished and set fire on part of the station.
“The desire of the hoodlums to cart away arms was aborted, as the police successfully evacuated the arms from the station to safety. As at the time of this report, no human casualty was recorded on the part of the police, while some of the hoodlums escaped with bullet wounds.”
