NO HIJAB, NO VOTE – JMF

The Joint Muslim Forum (JMF) has condemned recent judgment of an Ikeja High Court in Lagos State to uphold the ban on Hijab in primary and second¬ary schools in the state, adding that Muslims in the state would not vote in 2015 if the ban is not re¬versed.
At a press conference organised by the group in Lagos at the weekend, the group’s spokesperson, Al-haji Thabit Wale Son
aike, said the judgment is a ne¬gation of the fundamental human rights of Muslims, describing it as illogical, inexplicable and a total miscarriage of justice.
He said: “The learned Judge erred by averring that Hijab creates a sense of inferiority complex in those who do not use it. It is laughable. How can the Hijab used by a Mus¬lim give others inferior¬ity complex. Should those who want Hijab therefore remain in perpetual op¬pression and lack of reli¬gious freedom?” he que¬ried.

The event held at the Rahmat Islamiyah Hall, Ikeja, Lagos, had over 28 Islamic organisations across the state in atten¬dance.
JMF is a Muslim non-governmental and non-profit making organisa¬tion with no political affiliation but serves as a platform for several well meaning and progressive Muslim organisations in Lagos State.
It would be recalled that on Friday, October 17, 2014, Justice Modupe On¬yeabor, had dismissed and ruled against the Muslim Students Society of Nige¬ria, MSSN, suit against the Lagos State Govern¬ment, saying such prac¬tice would affect the secu¬lar nature of the state.
