DSS TO SEEK AUSTRALIAN NEGOTIATOR’S EXTRADITION

There are strong indications that the Department of State Security (DSS) may approach the Australian embassy in the country, to facilitate the extradition of a self-styled Australian negotiator, Dr. Steven Davis. New Telegraph gathered from a security source yesterday, that Davis may be needed to answer to the “false” allegation he made against former Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt- Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, and a former Governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.
According to the source, “There is a high possibility that Davis will be extradited to Nigeria, to answer questions relating to his allegation against Ihejirika and Sheriff. “I’m sure when we are set to roll, we may proceed to declare him wanted,” the source said. Already, Ihejirika has slammed a N100 billion libel suit on Davis. Asked how soon that will be, he responded: “Once the decision is taken, we will approach the Australian government, through its embassy in Nigeria, to help in the process.

“You know issues of diplomatic concerns, take a little bit of time. “But I assure you that once we conclude investigations, the rest will follow; investigation proceeds from one stage to the other.” Davis had alleged in August that Ihejirika and Sheriff were among those allegedly funding Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East. He had predicated his “findings” on “discussions with several field commanders of the violent sect, who allegedly expressed willingness to negotiate with the Federal Government.” This claim was, however, faulted by the DSS, which paraded seven “fake” commanders of Boko Haram, whom Davis claimed were the sources of his allegation.
The Deputy Director of Public Relations of the DSS, Ms Marilyn Ogar had, while parading the “fake field commanders,” maintained that the alleged indictment of Sheriff and Ihejirika was a grand plan by Davis and his cohorts, who “are among several other local and international groups, who are out to make merchandise of the Boko Haram insurgency, through concocted and fabricated stories.”
Ogar had said during interrogation that the fake commanders had confessed that a former aide of Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno, one Junaid Idriss Khadi, that he “deliberately conspired to blackmail and implicate Ali Modu Sheriff and one Mala Othman, former state chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as sponsors of the Boko Haram sect. “That Davis singlehandedly conjured the indictment on Ihejirika based on allegations that the military, under the former COAS was responsible for the several failed attempts by Davis to make contact with the Presidency.
“That he organised several meetings between the purported Boko Haram commanders and Davis in Abuja and was privy to a YouTube video, an interview on Voice of America (VOA) and he (Khadi) also used Davis’ camera to capture snapshots of Davis in a group photograph with some fake commanders of the sect.” Efforts to reach Ogar for comments were not successful, as her phone line did not go through. She didn’t reply a text message sent to her as at the time of going to press.
