Police High Command has said that it will investigate and subsequently prosecute All Progressives Congress, APC presidential candidate, Major General Muhamadu Buhari (rtd) over alleged forged school result only if a formal complaint is lodged in any police station in the country. The police said arraigning Buhari would also occur if a prima facie case is established against him. Force headquarters reacted, weekend, in the ranging controversy over the APC flag bearer’s secondary school certificate, in an exclusive chat with the Nigerian Pilot Sunday. Buhari has been enmeshed in an alleged result scam since the electioneering campaigns became intensive.
He was reported not to have had the results of his former school, Provincial Secondary School, Katsina now Government Secondary School, Katsina in the records of the Independent National electoral Commission, INEC as required by the electoral Act 2010. While the APC candidate had earlier claimed that his constituency, the army, was in possession of his academic certificates, the military secretary disowned such claims. But in a dramatic twist, Buhari while addressing newsmen in Kano recently, said contrary to claims that he did not have the West African School Certificate, he sat for and passed the examination with Second Division as a pupil of provincial Secondary School now Government Secondary School, Kastina in 1961. Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has also faulted the result, which was however made public by the school authority in Kastina State. Addressing newsmen on the purported result, Director of Media and Publicity of PDP campaign organisation, Chief Femi Fani- Kayode said the result was forged. According to him, “after a close scrutiny of the document, the party has several reasons to doubt its authenticity.” He said that the party does not know who the authors and masterminds of the forgery are, but whoever they are, if they fail to come forward voluntarily, we hereby call on the police and other security agencies to seek them out, find them, arrest them interrogate them and prosecute them in accordance with the laws of the land. But speaking in an exclusive chat on the lingering Buhari result controversy and if the police will probe and prosecute him if he is culpable, the Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, a commissioner of Police, said the police was ready to do the needful only if complaints were made to it. Ojukwu said, if a formal complaint is lodged in a police station or formation, the police shall do the needful.”
