PALESTINE: ACF DEMANDS EXPLANATION ON ABSTENTION

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has demanded an explanation from the Federal Government on why Nigeria abstained from voting to end Israel’s occupation of Palestine.
The forum equally called on both chambers of the National Assembly to as a matter of urgency investigate the matter and ascertain why the country did not participate in the voting th
at would have ensured Palestine’s statehood after decades of agitation from Israel.
Nigeria had abstained from the voting on December 30 following a last minute call reportedly put to President Goodluck Jonathan by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

But ACF said in a statement titled “On Nigeria’s abstention on the Palestinian Resolution in the United Nations Security Council, December 31, 2014” that Nigeria’s action was an affront to the country’s foreign policy.
The ACF statement, signed by chairman of its Board of Trustees Malam Adamu M. Fika and chairman of its National Executive Committee (NEC) former IGP Ibrahim Ahmadu Coomassie, said it was strange for Nigeria to act the way it did.
