Three polythene bags containing 282 sharpened cutlasses have been intercepted by the police in Katsina State.
The cutlasses, suspected to be meant for carrying out nefarious activities, including political thuggery, were intercepted at the Old Motor-park in the state’s metropolis.
The cutlasses, it was learnt, were meant for delivery at Mashi council area, which is some halfhour journey from the state capital.
Confirming the incident, the police spokesperson in the state, DSP Aminu Sadiq, said the items were intercepted after a tip-off and that the items were suspected to be for “thuggery and other criminal acts.”
Sadiq said as way of trying to apprehend those behind the cutlasses, a 24-hour surveillance was mounted on the items but the suspects evaded arrest.
He however said effort has been intensified in the state to check influx of dangerous weapons.
