The Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation (PDPPCO) insisted yesterday that Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State was culpable in the April 2014 abduction of over 200 girls from Government Secondary School, Chibok, by Boko Haram.
The ruling party targeted the governor with series of questions which it said were begging to be responded to.
A statement issued by the Directorate of Media and Publicity of the PDPPCO on the issue read: “It is time for Nigerians to know the truth about the All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and the way in which some of them emerged to become governors.
“The case of Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State is instructive. This is a man who emerged as the governor only after the man that won the nomination to become the flag bearer of his party, Alhaji Mode Fannami Gubio, was mysteriously gunned down.
“The question is, who killed Gubio and whether it is true that the murder had the Boko Haram link.
“ This is just one of the questions that Governor Shettima must answer.
“Coming to the issue, it is amusing that in his usual manner, the Governor of Borno State has claimed that we had accused someone else other than himself for the abduction of the Chibok girls in the past. This is not true. The fact of the matter is that our story has been consistent and clear right from the beginning and the records are there for all to see.
“We have said it from day one that the governor of Borno State is culpable, and has questions to answer about the abduction of the Chibok girls. This is because he allegedly broke his promise to guarantee the security of those girls and he allowed them to be abducted.
“Either way, come rain, come shine, at the appropriate time, Kashim Shettima would answer to God and he would answer to the Nigerian people for what has happened to those girls.
In response to our concern about his role in this matter, all he has done is to hurl personal insults at us and has failed to answer the questions about his culpability and address the fundamental issues.
“The questions are simple and clear: Did he or did he not ignore the Federal Government’s warning and that of WAEC when they advised him not to allow those examinations to take place in Chibok? And secondly, did he or did he not guarantee the security of those girls? Thirdly, is it not true that he failed to deploy any security personnel to that school that night?”
“The record shows that despite his promises of ensuring that the girls would be protected, not one security operative, policeman, soldier, armed man or even adult was with those girls that night except for one elderly gateman who was unarmed.
“The governor failed to keep his promise. He betrayed those girls; he let down Borno State and he let down Nigeria. Instead of him, begging God for forgiveness, working hard for the return of those girls and to assist in finding them, all that he does is to hurl insults at us.
“This does not surprise us because that is the style and the way of the APC for you. They are a party of failed propagandists, liars, slanderers and deceitful men. We lose no sleep about what Kashim Shettima and his party feel about us because that feeling is mutual.
Whatever they feel about us, we feel exactly the same about them. They do not like us and we do not like them.“Yet it does not matter whether we like one another and that is not the issue. The issue is that in his response to our grave allegation, all the governor could say was that we are looking for media attention and that we are infantile. May God forgive him for attempting to trivialize this very serious matter.“The truth is that the plight of the Chibok girls is the major issue of the day and when we speak out and make these grave and serious allegations, we do not do so lightly. When I say this thing and raise this question, I am not doing so in my personal capacity but as Director of Media and Publicity of the Jonathan-Sambo Presidential Campaign Organisation. “When I raise these questions, I am doing so on behalf of the President, the Presidential Campaign Organisation (PDPPCO), and millions of PDP leaders and supporters from all over the country. Our party and each and every one of these people are deeply concerned about the role of Shettima in the Chibok affair and we would continue to ask those questions on their behalf, whether Shettima likes it or not.“The fact that the governor is not that well educated, and that he never went to any school of note, does not excuse his ignorance and complicity in this matter and it will not absolve him for failing in his sacred duty to protect the people of his state.“He has sold his own people out; his party, the APC, has betrayed the Nigerian people and his presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, has consistently proved that he is not fit to rule Nigeria.“Our advice to Shettima and his party is to stop hiding behind and relying on the findings of some inconclusive and incomplete panel report which he claims absolved him of any wrong doing about what happened in Chibok and instead he should prepare for the Day of Judgment.“Shettima and his party are ignoring our questions, concerns and grave allegations and assertions at their own peril. Other than to say this, we have no more time for Governor Shettima.
At the end of the day God would judge him for his actions.
