•As anti-corruption coalition protests against Tinubu, Fashola
THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was, on Thursday, asked to release the report of a probe it conducted into alleged multi-billion corrupt handling of Lagos State finances by the administration of Governor Babatunde Fashola.
A coalition of anti-corruption bodies; Coalition Against Corrupt Leader (CACOL), which made the request during a visit to the commission’s office in Ikoyi, also submitted another letter, demanding the expansion of the frontiers of the probe.
The protesters also stormed the state House of Assembly with another letter, asking the legislature to perform its oversight functions of probing the financial activities of the executive arm.
Specifically in the petition to the anti-corruption agency, the controversial payments being allegedly made to a tax-collecting company; Alpha Beta Company (ABC) from the revenue generated by the state government.
The national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bola Tinubu, is rumoured to be the chief-promoter of ABC.
In the petition signed by CACOL executive chairman, Debo Adeniran, it was alleged that between January 25, 2012 and October 26, 2014 through Skye Bank Plc account, a sum of N27,743,310,520.93 was paid to ABC.
A mild drama, however, ensued at the House of Assembly when the protesters got to the premises and demanded to see the lawmakers, with no one coming out to see them or receive the petition from them.
After waiting for over two hours without being received, the protesters sent three of its officials into the complex to deliver the petition for onward transfer to the lawmakers.
The protesters trekked from Ikeja underbridge to the assembly in Alausa, bearing placards with inscriptions and expressed their disappointment at the disposition of the assembly to them, saying they were elected to represent the people of the state.
“Against this backdrop, CACOL is calling on the EFCC to make public findings on the allegations of the True Face of Lagos as contained in our previous petitions.
“We urge you to prevail on your personnel to expedite actions on the request made that the allegations raised in our petition are diligently investigated, its report made public, and whoever is indicted be prosecuted and punished appropriately,” the group said.
