MARKETERS of petroleum products across the country are facing hard times, as the Federal Government is yet to pay them, while the government is yet to make commitment on how to settle its debt obligations to them.
According to findings by the Nigerian Tribune on Tuesday, the Federal Government had neither called marketers for a meeting nor committed to settle its debt obligations to them.
This was as fuel scarcity bit harder in Lagos, Abuja and other major cities across the country.
Executive Secretary, Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN), Obafemi Olawore, told the Nigerian Tribune on Tuesday that the government was yet to communicate on how to settle its debt obligations to marketers.
He said he hoped that the situation would not get worse off, before the government would act to alleviate the masses’ suffering as a result of shortage in fuel supply across the nation.
The marketers had stated that their inability to import was due to lack of fund, because the Federal Government was yet to pay its N256.2 billion debt it owed them.
Long queues resurfaced in Lagos and its environs on Monday and the situation got worse on Tuesday when the Nigerian Tribune monitored the situation.
