‘JONATHAN NOT A POLITICIAN, BUT A STATESMAN’

THE former Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) and the Dan Masani of Kano, Yusuf Maitama Sule, has described President Goodluck Jonathan’s reaction to the just-concluded election as a good statesmanship, saying he is someone who proved to be above a politician.
Sule, who appreciated that President Jonathan wrote his name in gold by conce
ding defeat in the presidential race, said that Nigerians and the world should commend him for the singular but honourable act.
He said: “What I have been calling for has now come to reality. I have been praying for good leadership. I have seen a good leader in the present leader, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. We have heard election in Nigeria and the incumbent congratulated the President-elect. He is a good statesman.

“He wants the nation to realise its potentials. That is why he has behaved the way he has behaved. I certainly congratulate him. He has proved to all that he is one of the greatest leaders we ever had. This will surely help in having a sustained democracy.”
The former Permanent Representative to the UN congratulated Nigerians that after the most hotly contested election, the country remained peaceful, adding: “I still pray that Nigeria will overcome all problems being faced.
“I also pray for the President-elect, Gen. Muhamadu Buhari, that he will do justice to all and sundry. He should take the nation as his constituency. He should be just all the time.”
Meanwhile, a group, Lawyers for Sustainable Development, yesterday in a statement commended President Jonathan for conceding defeat.
The chairman of the association, Mr. Muhammad Zubair, said President Jonathan is an exemplary leader who wrote his name in gold.
“Our dear President shows to the world that he is a true democrat. His style of leadership is good and genuine”, he said.
